Beyoncé has led tributes to Trayvon Martin after George Zimmerman was acquitted of his murder.

The unarmed 17-year-old was shot dead in Florida last February in a case that caused outrage in America. The jury accepted Zimmerman's claim of self-defence.

Beyoncé paused her 'Mrs Carter Show World Tour' concert at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville following news of the verdict last night (July 13).

"I'd like to have a moment of silence for Trayvon," she told fans, before singing the chorus of 'I Will Always Love You'.

Public figures such as Rihanna, Diddy, Nicki Minaj and Russell Simmons have also expressed their anger at the verdict on Twitter.

Simmons called for calm and asked people to channel their anger into fighting "laws that allow racist acts to go unpunished".

Rapper Young Jeezy, meanwhile, posted a new song called 'It's a Cold World (A Tribute to Trayvon Martin)' to his Facebook page after hearing the outcome of the trial.

"I am in no way shape, form, or fashion trying to capitalise off of the latest series of events," he wrote. "These are my true feelings and my form of expression about it."
