Justin Timberlake announces autumn shows in New Jersey and New York

If you missed him with Jay Z at Yankee Stadium, he's giving you another chance to catch his act. Justin Timberlake, pop star resurgent, will return to the area for two autumn performances. On Nov. 6, he'll be singing at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Three nights later -- Nov. 9 -- he takes the act to the Meadowlands for an Izod Center performance.

Tickets to both shows go on sale through Tickemaster on Monday, July 29.

Timberlake has lately been touring stadiums as one half of the Legends of the Summer, a circuit he's sharing with Jay Z. At last week's Legends show, Timberlake sang, danced, played electric and upright piano, strummed a guitar, and even made like Sinatra during a spotlight performance of "New York, New York." It was an energetic showing from an artist who'd returned to serious music-making after a long stay in Hollywood. "Futuresex/LoveSounds," Timberlake's 2006 album, was seminal: It foreshadowed the arty, atmospheric R&B that became popular at the turn of the decade. After making an indelible mark with "Futuresex," Timberlake contented himself with guest appearances and movie roles for many years.

Just when it seemed like he never would, Timberlake returned to music with "The 20/20 Experience," a set of long, elastic pop-R&B grooves produced by Tim "Timbaland" Mosley, the same man behind "Futuresex." (The album also contains some of the year's dumbest lyrics, but who cares when you're boogying down, right?) "20/20" topped the pop charts this spring, and spun off two big hit singles - the debonair "Suit and Tie," and the mid-tempo love ballad "Mirrors." "Tunnel Vision," a third single, incorporated elements from electronic dance music.

At the time of the release of "The 20/20 Experience," it was widely rumored that the album was the tip of the iceberg, and Timbaland and Timberlake had made much more music together. The upcoming release of "The 20/20 Experience -- 2 of 2," which'll be out on Sept. 30, suggests that this wasn't just talk. "Take Back the Night," the lead single from the second installment of "20/20," extends and deepens the groove-heavy sound of the first set. Give the pop singer this: Blithe as he can be, he doesn't take half-measures. When he's in, he's all the way in.
