Armed with two iPhones, a recently purchased One Direction poster and a hatred for the sweltering July sun, GuideLive intern MiKenna Williams and myself made it our Monday afternoon mission to see if the parents of Dallas' Directioners (the nickname fans of One Direction have given themselves) knew as much about the British-Irish boy band as their preteen counterparts.
The ultra-popular group, which sold out the American Airlines Center tonight on the Dallas stop of their "Take Me Home" tour, had throngs of teenage girls lining up for the show hours before the AAC's doors were even open.
Our rules were simple: True Directioners (read: teenage girls) were given 10 seconds to name as many facts about One Direction as they could while their parents were given 15 seconds to stick the correct name to corresponding bandmate on our velcro-equipped poster.
First, the true Directioners. While standard answers were given like band mates' birthdays and heights, a truly odd factoid came to the surface as more and more Directioners casually mentioned "...and Louis LOVES carrots." Come to find out Louis doesn't love carrots as much as he loves girls who eat carrots, which is evidenced by this YouTube video.
As far as the parents go, a good majority were able to correctly identify the individual members of One Direction, except Niall, who was hidden in a phone booth on our poster. Even though we threw in bogus names like Larry and Miles, the parents were quick at naming the band mates and could easily pass as Directioners themselves.
